The first meeting of a Leek’s own Ukulele band has been hailed as a success. Novice musician Dorothy Osborne organised the gathering to take place at The Red Lion in Leek’s Market Place. The 68-year-old said: “We have now got the enthusiasm and the players at varying levels of ability.

“Everyone got stuck into the music straight away.

“With ages from 20 to over 70, and coming from as far afield as Newcastle-under-Lyme, the band’s name ‘Zoticus -in-Leek’ proved a match for its founder members as its meaning ‘full of life’ was much in evidence.”

The new band will be meeting weekly at The Red Lion on Tuesday April 26, Wednesday May 4, Thursday May 12, Tuesday May 17, Wednesday May 25, Wednesday June 1, and Thursdays June 9 and 16.
